I had a conversation with someone yesterday who was super excited because she won a bid from a company she wanted to do business with. She shared with me a comment that was made as to why she won the bid over the other company. While both people had similar skills and experiences, what the company saw in her was integrity and character. That impressed them.
Listed below is some of what impressed them and I believe especially for current and emerging leaders in business, ministry, marketplace and beyond, this is important.
- She responded to their emails and phone calls.
2. She responded in a timely fashion.
3. She asked questions that reflected her interest in them.
4. She began to offer a solution to one of their problems without getting the bid first.
5. She showed up on time to the additional virtual and in-person meetings.
6. Humility. She has somewhat more experience and skill set in a specific area than the person she will be working with, and she offered any assistance to help.
How you show up in the earth still matters!
These are just a few examples of the characteristics that make up GREAT leaders! These are the men and women people want to work and serve with. Many times over the years I have seen people who are gifted and experienced but lack significantly in integrity. They are often prideful, unreliable, gossips, de-motivators, overly sensitive, and over-reactive. They don’t look to see ways they can BE a benefit, only ways they can receive the benefits.
You never go wrong with integrity and character because someone with those traits can be taught skill set. Pride or closed mindsets will always keep a person limited because they will want more without seeing that they are the very reason they are not leveling up.
Be the benefit, the blessing to others through good character and integrity and watch God open doors to you that you couldn’t imagine! Blessings!
