The Little Girl

I invite you to read Andrea’s personal testimony for Women Walking with Jesus.

“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” Psalm 127:3 NLT

Many years ago a little girl was born to teenage parents. As a result, her maternal grandparents became an integral part of her life. They loved her unconditionally, taught her to love Jesus, and prepared her to face daily struggles with confidence, by teaching her to pray about anything and everything. As she grew and matured, her grandparents answered her questions about life, allowed her the freedom to fail, and lavished her with love and affection.

During the little girl’s tween and teen years, both grandparents joined their Savior, Jesus Christ in heaven. Overcome by grief and facing a new normal the little girl moved forward. Her grandparents had prepared her for the future as they poured the love, mercy, and grace of their Savior into her heart. The rhythm of their faith was contagious and life giving.

Over the years, the legacy of two godly grandparents was lived out in and through this little girl’s life. Sure she made mistakes and faced times of pain, but she persevered and clung tightly to her faith in Jesus. How do I know? I am that little girl!

If you are a grandparent who is involved in or responsible for the daily needs of your grandchild, know God is using you far beyond what you can visibly see or comprehend. Your earthly days will come to an end, but your legacy will live on in the life of each child. The “Jesus seeds” you are planting are treasures your grandchild will access time and time again throughout their lives.

  1. I love learning the stories behind the faces of people. Praise God for godly grandparents who raised you and taught you well. Your story is definitely an encouragement for so many. My good friends raised their grandson who was born to their teenage daughter and her boyfriend at the time. They also have taught him about Jesus and he just graduated high school. Although my parents raised me, my grandparents played a huge role in my walk of faith. They lived out their love for Jesus in front of me and served as wonderful examples to me. Thank you Andrea for sharing your life with us.

    Blessings and love,

  2. Thank you, Denise. You are beautiful and I appreciate you taking the time to read my article and comment. You are a blessings to so many and I am thankful to be one of those.

grandparents who saw a precious child in need of love and then nurtured her in the ways of the Lord. Praying for you always. I feel I understand how God is faithful in all things. Blessings.

    • Thank you, Renee for your kind words. Your love and encouragement have been a blessing to me. You have been one of a few who have encouraged me to keep on keeping on when the journey was difficult. God bless you for being a living vessel in my life.

  4. As a grandmother myself Andrea, who pours the love and foundation of Jesus into my grand girls…and as one who had a grandma and grandpa who poured into me the love and foundation of Jesus, and I into my children, I can relate to the blessing of what you wrote and lived. I’m sure that your heart to share will bless many who God will send….

    Blessings to you!

  5. Thank you, Lisa. I am forever thankful you and I were blessed to have grandparents pour into us and even more thankful we realize the importance of pouring into those little ones in our path.
    Blessings, hugs, and prayers,

  6. Mary: I am confident you are leaving a legacy for your Savior with your precious little ones far beyond what you will ever know this side of heaven. Keep on being you, my sweet friend!
    Blessings and prayers,

  7. … “lavished her with love and affection” + “…prepared her for the future” + ” … their faith was contagious and life giving” = the prescription Jesus used (& uses) to grow healthy, bold disciples. What a wonderful legacy those grandparents left you! I pray my own impact is half as powerful.

  8. Andrea, this was so encouraging! I am going to share this post with several friends who are doing just as you described your grandparents…pouring their heart and love into raising a grandchild. What a powerful testimony they have left behind in you!

  9. Although I had an intact family with a loving mother and father, my paternal grandparents played a huge role in my life. We spent a good bit of time with them, and I have such fond memories of being with them. My grandmother, especially, walked closely with Jesus and talked of Him often. I think it is so important for children who have godly grandparents to have lots of contact with them.
