I invite you to read the awesome posts written by the women of Women Walking with Jesus
I’ve heard it said that the only constant thing in life is change. At this time of year, as the days become shorter, the morning air is turning crisp making it necessary to pull out our warm sweaters and scarves to fend off the chill. The familiar scent of wood smoke from warm fires burning on the hearth is becoming more common in the evening air. Autumn has blown its way into the North Bay and the leaves on the trees are changing from green to gold. Pumpkin patches have emerged amid the drying cornstalks on the outskirts of town, and soon, Thanksgiving will arrive with scents of cinnamon and freshly baked apple pies. Then, as it does each year, fall will give way to winter and the earth will rest as it prepares for the coming of spring. I love the earth’s shifting seasons, but for many of us, change is an uncomfortable feeling.
Our world is continually changing. Political leaders come and go, new governments emerge and some fade. Society changes the way it thinks, sometimes for the better, and sometimes not. The fashions of today will be outdated tomorrow. Our children grow up, relationships change and people move on. And, as the days turn into years, our bodies continually transform bringing new challenges as we age. But in the midst of our ever-changing world we can breathe a sigh of relief, for thankfully, our God is a never-changing God. We can count on Him to be ever faithful, ever strong, “For I am the Lord, I do not change”(Malachi 3:6, NKJV).
As humans, we thrive in stable environments. But our environments change every day. So what do we do when our world is changing all around us? We depend on the One who is always steady. Jesus is the Rock upon which to stand. It is so comforting to remember that no matter what changes there are around us, our God is unwavering. We can count on Him. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever”(Hebrews 13:8, NLT).
We have been depending on Jesus! Over the last couple of years, our family has been in a season of change. There have been births and deaths, loss and new love. We have experienced obstacles and growth. So much change has happened, in fact, that we were becoming overwhelmed. As we looked to our Lord in order to stay steady, we decided to start a blessing jar in which to put our written-out blessings and joys. So often we can become so consumed with the negative changes we see in our lives that we overlook the many blessings God showers on us daily. At the end of the year we are going to open up that jar and refresh our memories, giving thanks to God for all He has done, even and through, the many changes we have experienced.
Our God is a constant God. Through turmoil and change, He remains ever faithful and true. We can count on Him to always work in our best interest as He works out His plan for our lives. His power, love and mercy is never ending. Because of this record keeping we have been doing, we are remaining excited about what God has done and is continuing to do through the changes in our lives. It is teaching us just how constantly loving and never changing He really is…and for that, I am truly thankful.
How are you reminded of God’s unchanging love?
Looking to Jesus,
Joan Davis started her blog, The Beauty in His Grip, in order to share her thankfulness to God for His redeeming hand on her life. She believes that everything happens for a reason and the life-lessons learned along the way should be shared with others in order to build up the body for Christ. It is her desire is to encourage other women through the lessons that God has taught her. Joan shares the incredible truth that we can never fall so far that we are beyond the reach of God. There are no lost causes, for He loves us all. It doesn’t matter how rocky our pasts, God will always accept us when we surrender our lives to Him. With Christ we can live a life filled with abundant joy simply by knowing and experiencing Him through His mercy, grace and unfailing love.
