In this life

I invite you to read this very strengthening message from Elisse for Women Walking with Jesus.

I had been in this place before. This feeling that everything around me was falling apart, or that at least I was living the dream where you are free falling and aren’t sure when and if you will land?

To this A-type, planner personality there is nothing scarier than a free fall. If I had my way, my life would be planned from start to finish. Every second plotted with the greatest of care.

But that doesn’t work in “real” life and it certainly is not the way I’ve known God to operate. You see, over and over in scripture God seemingly allows people to “free fall” while He is busy working behind the scenes on their behalf.

* Job lost everything only to have it restored 10 fold!

* God asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac on the altar.

* David was still a shepherd for years after he was anointed king.

* For thousands of years after Isaiah prophesied about the coming Messiah, the Lord was seemingly quiet as the Jewish people waited.

There is a moment in each of our lives (or several moments) when we must make a choice to believe God in spite of what our circumstances tell us. There is a moment when what is obvious to this world is not the reality for us.

No matter what the Dr.’s say, no matter what the finances are, no matter what the feelings would like to dictate, I know that God is sovereign. He is still on the throne and He is watching out for His kids.

Jesus promises 2 things in John 16:33 and the first is that we will have suffering. In this broken, sin-infested, messed up world, we will face circumstances that we would rather not face. We will have times when we feel as if our backs are up against the wall and we have nowhere to turn. Times when we are so exhausted that we don’t know how we will make one more step. As Moms, as Wives and as people living on the planet Earth, we are guaranteed to face hard times. But Jesus doesn’t stop there. He goes much further.

John 16:33 (HCSB version) says “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”

The good news is that Jesus has overcome. He has beaten it all. Death couldn’t hold him, sin couldn’t touch him and the trials of this world weren’t enough to stop him. He overcame so that through him, we might overcome.

The longer I walk with Jesus, the more I get that in my spirit. There is NOTHING that I will face with Jesus that does not work out for my good. The sickness, the hard times, the uncertainties… they may not feel good in the moment but they always teach me something about who my God is. They always remind me that He is holy, He is worthy, He is all powerful and He brings peace.

I’m not sure what you are waiting for and I’m not sure what trials you are walking through but this I am sure of- my Jesus is more than enough. He can and will see you through it. You can weather the storms of this life in full peace with the assurance that Jesus is all that you have need of.

  1. I wince every time I hear the wealth and prosperity gospel message. It’s not true! God’s Word says that in this world we will have trouble. My life has had its ups and downs. The overwhelming truth for me is that with Jesus I have all I need. Thank you for this honest and thoughtful post Elisse.

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie

  2. Jesus didn’t try to hide for us his followers at all did he. No matter how many sugar coated messages of all well be messages we hear, we need only to crack open our Bibles and we read the words of Jesus. Troubles are to be expected. But troubles are not the end of the story. IN

  3. God’s word is clear concerning our trials and sufferings, and as you pointed out many blessings! Your words brought to mind how many times He has shown me his grace even in intense suffering. As my heart struggles at times, to grasp how precious the grace and love of our savior is: I know my redeemer lives and his promises give peace to my heart daily. Blessings, Renee’

    This says it all….
