You ever notice how those shiny wrapped packages and twinkling white lights can bring joy and a smile to even the stoniest of hearts this time of year?
Yet the desire for the perfect gift can lead one into some stressed-out shopping and mindless spending for some soon neglected trinkets, if we aren’t careful.
We all probably have those special gifts that stick out in our mind. I still remember the year my mom made sure I got the rose petal place dollhouse cottage and doll I wanted so much for Christmas. When I unwrapped that present to find the treasure my little 8 year old heart desired, oh what joy I felt.
But I also remember the feeling of being the giver of a gift only to have the person place the wrapped package in a corner and never open it for weeks.
The real gift is never found in the wrapping no matter how majestic the packaging may look.
As I think about packages, I think about humanity. For our Lord knew exactly what was on the inside of each of us. Yet he chose to redeem us. It was His love for the world that caused Him to send the gift of His precious son –Jesus.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 (NKJV)
Are you unwrapping the most precious gift this season?
